How to Draw an Alpaca (Easy Step by Step)
The alpaca is a cuddly animal with a long fluffy neck and a funny hairdo. This one is built from a big cloud shape for the body, a round face, and a few wavy lines. Wobbly lines are perfect here, because wool is supposed to look bumpy.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The fluffy body
Start low on the page and draw a big wide cloud shape, using lots of little bumps along the top, the sides and the bottom. Leave a bit of room above it for the neck and head.
Step 3: The head
Above the body, draw a round face with a curved chin. Add two pointy ears on top, two round dots for eyes, and a little curvy smile in the middle.
Step 4: The woolly neck
Draw two wavy lines going down from the sides of the head to the top of the body. Make little bumps so the neck looks soft and fluffy.
Step 5: Four skinny legs
Under the body, draw four tall, thin shapes like upside-down U's, two on the left and two on the right. Make them all about the same height so your alpaca stands steady.
Step 6: The little tail
On the left side of the body, draw a small bumpy puff for the tail. Let its bottom line curve down and meet the back leg.
Step 7: The fluffy topknot
Between the ears on top of the head, draw a puffy cloud shape with a wavy edge. It is the alpaca's funny hairdo.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing an alpaca
- Draw the body cloud with many small bumps instead of one smooth curve. If a bump comes out uneven, it just looks more like wool.
- Keep the face round and put the two eyes a little apart. Place the smile just under them so the face looks sweet.
- For the legs, draw two straight lines and then round off the bottom. Keep all four legs about the same length so the alpaca does not tip over.

How to color your alpaca drawing
Try cream, soft brown or light gray for the wool, with a darker color for the ears and legs. For a creative twist, color the topknot and tail in bright rainbow stripes, like a party alpaca.
Alpaca fun fact for kids
Alpacas hum to each other. They make a soft humming sound to talk to their friends and their babies, which are called crias.
