How to Draw a Mountain (Easy Step by Step)
A mountain is a great first landscape because it is mostly triangles and wiggly lines. This one has two peaks, snowy tops, a winding path, a few little trees and a smiling sun peeking out from between the peaks. Once you can draw a triangle, you can draw a whole mountain scene.

Step 1: The big mountain
Start at the bottom left and draw a long slanted line up to a rounded peak. Then come down the right side with a slightly bumpy line, almost to the bottom.
Step 2: The ground line
Draw a long straight line across the bottom, starting at the bottom left corner of the mountain and going past its right side to make the ground.
Step 3: The small mountain
Next to the big mountain, draw a smaller one. Start on the big mountain's right side, curve up to a little peak, and slant down to the ground on the right.
Step 4: Snowy caps
Draw a zigzag line across the top of each mountain, like a row of small points. This makes the snow on top.
Step 5: The smiling sun
Between the two peaks, draw a half circle for the sun peeking out. Add two dots for eyes, a little curved smile, and short lines around the top for rays. Then draw a short line to close the small gap at the bottom of the sun.
Step 6: The winding path
Start in the middle of the big mountain and draw a wiggly snake line that curls down to the ground.
Step 7: Three little trees
Draw three small bell-shaped trees on the ground. Make the left and right ones closed shapes with a flat bottom, and the middle one an open arch that sits on the ground line.
Step 8: Tree trunks
Under the left tree and the right tree, draw two short straight lines side by side for the trunk, reaching down to the ground.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a mountain
- Draw the big mountain first and the small one second. The small one starts at the big mountain's side, so begin its line right where it touches the big mountain.
- The zigzag snow caps are easiest if you draw the points first, like a row of tiny teeth, then connect them.
- For the winding path, think of a slow snake. Make gentle S-curves instead of sharp turns.

Mountain fun fact for kids
Mount Everest is the tallest mountain on Earth above sea level, and it is still growing a tiny bit taller every year as the land beneath it is slowly pushed upward.
Questions about drawing a mountain
What shapes do I need to draw a mountain?
You need a big triangle with a rounded top, a smaller triangle next to it, and a zigzag line for the snow. The trees are bell shapes, and two of them stand on short trunks.
How do I make the mountains look like they are different sizes?
Draw one mountain taller and let the second one start at its side. A smaller shape looks farther away.
How do I draw the snow on top of a mountain?
Draw a zigzag line across the peak, with pointy ups and downs. Everything above the zigzag is snow, and you can leave it white.
