How to draw a flower step by step

How to Draw a Flower · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The flower center

Draw a small circle in the middle of your page. This round middle is the flower's center.

  3. Step 3: Top petals

Above the center, draw a rounded bump at the top, then a rounded bump on the upper left and another on the upper right. Leave the bottom open for now.

  4. Step 4: Bottom petals

Add a rounded bump on the lower left and one on the lower right, then a curved bump at the bottom. Now the petals make a wavy ring around the center.

  5. Step 5: Petal lines and face

Draw six short straight lines, one at each place where two petals meet, going toward the center circle. Stop just before you touch it. Then give the center a face with two small dot eyes and a little curved smile.

  6. Step 6: The tall stem

From the bottom petal, draw two straight lines going down, side by side. Close them at the bottom with a rounded end.

  7. Step 7: Two leaves

On each side of the stem, draw a pointy oval shape like a lemon, with one end touching the stem. Make the left leaf lower and the right leaf a little higher.

  8. Step 8: Leaf veins

Inside each leaf, draw one long curved line from near the stem toward the pointy tip.

  9. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a flower

  • Draw the center circle first and keep it small. The petals need room around it, and a big center squeezes them.
  • Make the petal bumps about the same size so they fit together like a ring. Lightly draw them first if one looks too big.
  • For the stem, draw two lines that stay the same distance apart. Try drawing one line, then copying it beside the first.

Color the petals yellow, pink, or purple, the center orange, and the stem and leaves green. For a creative twist, give every petal a different color to make a rainbow flower.

Flower fun fact for kids

Young sunflower buds turn to follow the sun across the sky each day. This is called heliotropism, and it stops once the flower is fully grown.

How do I make my flower look cuter?

The center already has two dot eyes and a curved smile. You can add rosy cheeks, or draw a few more curved lines inside the leaves.

How many petals should my flower have?

This flower has six, but any number works. Daisies have many, and a simple flower can have just four.
