How to Draw a Kid with a Dog (Easy Step by Step)
A kid and a puppy out for a walk is a happy scene built almost entirely from circles, ovals and simple curved lines. The kid is a big round head on a box body, and the puppy is a smaller round head on a round body. If you can draw a circle, you can draw both of them.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Head
Draw a big circle for the kid's head. Make the bottom a little flat, with a short curved line for the chin.
Step 3: Shirt and shorts
Under the head, draw the sides of a tall box for the shirt, with a line across the bottom of it. Add a shorter box below for the shorts, with a little bump in the middle of its bottom edge.
Step 4: Arms and hand
On one side of the shirt, draw a long curved arm that ends in a small circle for a hand. On the other side, draw a short curved line coming down from the shoulder for the top of the second arm.
Step 5: Legs and shoes
Draw two short straight lines down from the shorts for legs. Add a flat oval at the bottom of each leg for a shoe.
Step 6: Puppy and faces
Finish the kid's second arm with a small circle hand reaching toward the dog. Beside the kid, draw a round puppy head with two floppy ears and a bigger round body below it, with two small oval paws, a little nose and dots for eyes. Give the kid two dots for eyes and a curved smile too.
Step 7: The collar
Draw a short curved line across the puppy's neck, from one side to the other, like a collar.
Step 8: Leash and tail
Draw a long curved line from the kid's hand down to the puppy's neck for the leash. Finish with a curly tail on the puppy's back.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a kid with a dog
- Draw the kid's head as one big, light circle first. Turn the paper as you go if it helps you close the curve smoothly.
- Keep the puppy smaller than the kid and place it low, next to the kid's hand, so the two feel like a pair.
- The leash is the trickiest part. Start at the kid's little hand circle and draw one slow curve down to the puppy's neck instead of lots of short lines.

Puppies are born with their eyes closed, and they usually open them when they are about two weeks old.
Questions about drawing a kid with a dog
What shapes do I need to draw a kid with a dog?
You need circles for the heads, boxes for the shirt and shorts, and ovals for the shoes and paws. A few curved lines finish the arms, leash and tail.
How do I make my puppy look cuter?
Make the head round, the ears floppy, and put the eyes wide apart. A small nose and a little curly tail help too.
How do I draw the leash so it looks right?
Start at the kid's hand and draw one smooth, curved line down to the puppy's neck. A loose curve looks friendlier than a straight line.
