How to draw the Sydney Opera House step by step

How to Draw the Sydney Opera House · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: The flat base

Draw a long, flat tray shape that is a little wider at the top than at the bottom. This is the platform the whole building sits on.

  2. Step 2: The tall middle sail

Start a little above the middle of the base and sweep a big curve up to a sharp point, like a shark fin. Then bring a slightly wavy line straight down the right side until it touches the base.

  3. Step 3: The left sail

On the left of the tall sail, draw a smaller fin shape. Start at the base and curve up to a point, then come back down with a short line that meets the base next to the big sail.

  4. Step 4: The right sail

On the right of the tall sail, draw another small fin. Start low on the big sail's edge, curve up to a point, then slide down to the base on the right.

  5. Step 5: Curves inside the sails

Inside each of the three sails, draw one more curved line that follows the outside edge. Start each one at the base and end it near the tip, so the sails look like thick, curved shells.

  6. Step 6: The harbor waves

Under the building, draw two rows of wavy lines for the harbor water. Make the lower row a little shorter than the top row and start it a little to the right.

  7. All done!

Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing the Sydney Opera House

  • Draw the tall middle sail first, then fit the smaller ones beside it. The big shape tells you how tall the others should be.
  • Keep each sail's tip sharp and pointy, and let the outer edge curve like the back of a slide. The inside line should follow that same curve.
  • For the waves, make each bump about the same size. Try humming up and down as you draw to keep the rhythm even.
