How to draw a shooting star step by step

How to Draw a Shooting Star · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: The star outline

Start at the top point and draw a big five-pointed star that leans a little to the side. Keep the points rounded and soft, and connect the lines all the way around back to where you began.

  2. Step 2: Eyes and smile

Inside the star, near the middle, draw two small dots for eyes. Then draw a tiny curved smile between them, a little lower down.

  3. Step 3: The top trail line

Out in front of the star's left side, draw a short curved line that sweeps toward the bottom left. Leave a little space between it and the star.

  4. Step 4: The middle trail line

Below the first trail line, draw a shorter curved line that slants up toward the star. Leave a gap between the two lines.

  5. Step 5: The last trail line

Add one more short curved line below and a little to the right of the last one, slanting the same way. This finishes the sparkly tail.

  6. All done!

Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a shooting star

  • The star is the trickiest part. Make a light five-point shape first, then go over it and round the corners so the points look soft and friendly.
  • Keep the eyes the same size and at the same height, and put the smile between them, a little lower, so the face looks happy.
  • Draw each trail line with one quick, smooth sweep, and make them a little shorter as they go down. Keep them close to the star so it looks like it is flying.

Shooting star fun fact for kids

Shooting stars are not really stars. They are meteors, bits of space rock and dust, many about the size of a grain of sand or a pebble, that glow with a bright streak as they zoom through the air around Earth.

Questions about drawing a shooting star

What shapes do I need to draw a shooting star?

You need a five-pointed star, two small dots for eyes, a little curve for the smile, and three curved lines for the trail. If the star is hard, start with a light pentagon and add a point to each side.

How do I make my star look cuter?

Round off the points so they are not too sharp, and keep the face small in the middle of the star. Two dots and a small smile are all it needs.

How do I make the star look like it is moving?

Add the curved trail lines out to one side of the star, the side it is flying away from. Making each line a little shorter than the last helps too.
