Step 1: Three marker bodies
Draw three tall, skinny rectangles with rounded bottom corners, leaning a little to the right at the bottom like a fan. Make each one a bit wider near the top where the cap will be, and leave space between them.
Step 2: The pointed marker
On the right, draw a fourth tall rectangle that leans the opposite way from the others. Round the top into a shoulder that narrows into a small tip with a rounded end.
Step 3: Cap lines and clips
Near the top of each of the three wide markers, draw a short slanted line straight across to show where the cap meets the body. Then add a short, straight up-and-down line inside each cap for the clip.
Step 4: Tip collar
On the right marker, draw one short line across the narrow neck of the tip. Draw another short line across where the rounded shoulder meets the body.
Step 5: Bottom bands
Near the bottom of each marker, draw two short lines straight across the body, one just above the other. Together they make a little stripe, like a ring around the marker.
Step 6: The squiggle
Below the markers, draw one long, wavy line that goes up and down like gentle hills. This is the marker doodle.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing markers
- Draw the first rectangle lightly, then copy its lean on the other two so those markers match.
- The pointed marker on the right is the trickiest part. Draw it as one long shape, with the shoulder curving in smoothly to the small tip.
- Draw each pair of bottom bands as two short lines that stay parallel, and keep them the same distance from the bottom on every marker.

How to color your markers drawing
Color each marker a different bright color and use the same color for its cap and bands. Make the squiggle one color, or color its wave in rainbow stripes.
Markers fun fact for kids
Many marker and pen caps have a small hole in them. It is a safety feature, so a person could still breathe through the cap if it were ever swallowed by accident.
Questions about drawing markers
What shapes do I need to draw markers?
You need tall rectangles with rounded corners, a few short straight lines for the caps and bands, and one wavy line for the squiggle. The pointed marker also has a rounded shoulder and a narrow tip.
How do I make my markers look like they are in a set?
Draw the three capped markers the same size and lean, and give each one the same cap line, clip and bands. Then color each one differently.
How do I draw a smooth wavy line?
Start at one side and make a slow curve up, then down, like a gentle hill. Try to keep your hand moving instead of stopping, and practice on scrap paper first.
