A kawaii crayon is a great first drawing because it is mostly straight lines and one happy face. You build it from a pointed tip with two long sides, a flat bottom, a curved band, two wavy stripes, and a curly squiggle that shows it has been coloring.

How to draw a crayon step by step

How to Draw a Crayon · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Tip and sides

Start at the left, draw a straight line up and to the right to a rounded point, then down the other side. From each end of the roof, draw a long straight line down, leaving the bottom open.

  2. Step 2: The bottom

Join the two long sides with a flat line along the bottom. Round off the two bottom corners so they are soft, not sharp.

  3. Step 3: The paper band

Where the pointy tip meets the tall body, draw a gently curved line from the left side to the right side. It bows downward a little, like a wide smile.

  4. Step 4: Wavy stripes

Draw two wavy lines of little bumps across the body, one near the top and one near the bottom. Start each at the left side, wiggle up and down, and end at the right side.

  5. Step 5: The happy face

In the middle of the body, draw two small round dots for eyes, side by side. Add a small curved smile below them, like a little bowl.

  6. Step 6: The scribble

Next to the bottom of the crayon, draw a curly squiggle with loops, as if the crayon just made it. Start low, loop around a couple of times, then let the line swoop up to a tail.

  7. All done!

Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a crayon

  • Draw the two long sides of the body first and keep them parallel, so the crayon does not lean.
  • For the wavy stripes, make small dots in a row first, then connect them with up-and-down bumps so every bump is about the same size.
  • Draw the scribble last with one loose, slow line. It is fine if the loops are not the same size.

How to color your crayon drawing

Pick one bold color for the tip and the stripes, like red or blue, and leave the middle of the body lighter. For a creative twist, color the scribble with the same crayon color to show what this crayon likes to draw.

Crayon fun fact for kids

Crayons are made from wax, usually paraffin, mixed with colored pigment. The wax is melted and poured into molds, and then it cools into the crayon shape you know.
