How to draw a box of crayons step by step

How to Draw a Box of Crayons · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: The crayon box

Draw a wide rectangle with rounded corners, like a soft pillow shape. Make it wider than it is tall, and leave plenty of room above it for the crayons.

  2. Step 2: The first crayon

Near the middle of the top edge of the box, draw two straight lines going up from the box. Close the top with a rounded arch that has a small tip, like a tall tunnel.

  3. Step 3: Crayons on each side

Draw one more crayon on each side of the first one, standing on the top edge of the box. Give each one straight sides and an arched top, and leave a gap between them for more crayons.

  4. Step 4: Crayons in the gaps

Fill the gaps with three more crayons that stand on the top edge of the box: one between the left crayon and the tall one, and two between the tall one and the right crayon. Make them shorter than their neighbors so the tops sit at different heights.

  5. Step 5: Wrapper stripes

Near the top of each crayon, draw two short straight lines across it from one side to the other. These make the paper wrapper bands.

  6. Step 6: A happy face

On the box, draw two small dots for eyes, with space between them. Between the eyes and a little lower, draw a small curved smile like a tiny bowl.

  7. Step 7: The wavy line

Under the face, draw a long wiggly line that goes up and down like gentle ocean waves. Start near the left side of the box and end near the right side, keeping it away from the edges.

  8. All done!

Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a box of crayons

  • Draw the crayons at different heights. If they are all the same, the picture looks stiff, and uneven crayons look more like a real box.
  • Make the tops by drawing a gentle arch, like a rounded hill with a small tip. It is easier to curve the line slowly than to draw a sharp triangle.
  • Keep the wavy line smooth by drawing it in one go without lifting your pencil. Let your hand go up and down like a roller coaster.

Questions about drawing a box of crayons

What shapes do I need to draw a box of crayons?

You need one wide rounded rectangle for the box and six tall shapes with arched tops for the crayons. Add short lines for the wrappers, two dots and a small curve for the face, and a wavy line on the box.

How do I make my crayon box look cuter?

Draw the smile a little lower than the eyes and keep the eyes small with space between them. Rounding the corners of the box more also makes it look softer and friendlier.

How do I draw crayons that stand up straight?

Draw two straight lines going up from the box, keeping them the same distance apart the whole way. A ruler or the edge of a piece of paper can help you keep the lines straight.
