Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The head
Draw a big round shape near the top of your page, a little wider than tall. Leave a small gap at the bottom in the middle, where the chin meets the body.
Step 3: The body
Start at each side of the gap under the head and draw a long curved line down. Make the body a little wider in the middle, and finish each line with a small curl at the bottom.
Step 4: Floppy ears
On each side of the head, draw a big rounded ear shaped like a bean. Tuck the top and bottom of each ear behind the head.
Step 5: Legs and paws
Draw two straight lines going down from the bottom of the body for the front legs. Add a small curved line across the top of each foot to make two flat oval paws.
Step 6: The tail
On the right side of the body, draw a long curved line that swoops out and up. Draw a second line beside it and join them at the tip to make a skinny tail.
Step 7: The ball
Under the face, on the chest, draw a small round circle for the ball the dog is holding. Let it tuck up against the bottom of the head.
Step 8: Face and ball seams
Add two small dots for eyes and a rounded oval nose in the middle of the face. Then draw one short curved line on each side of the ball for its seams.
Step 9: The ball on the ground
Next to the tail, near the bottom of the page, draw one more small circle for a ball on the ground. Add a curved seam line on each side, like the ball in the mouth.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a dog with a ball
- Draw the head first and leave a small gap at the bottom, because the body lines start there.
- Make the two ears about the same size, and tuck them behind the head so they look like they are hanging down.
- For the ball seams, draw one short curve on each side of the ball. Do the same on both balls so they match.
