Step 1: Body sides and belly
Draw two tall curved lines for the sides of the body, one on the left and one on the right, bending out a little like parentheses. Then draw a short curved smile line low between them for the belly.
Step 2: Graduation cap
Near the top, draw a flat diamond shape like a tilted tabletop. Under it, draw a curved band with a short straight line going down at each end. On the right side, add a little curly cord hanging from the cap.
Step 3: Pointy ears
Draw a pointy leaf shape on each side of the cap. Start each one at the cap's band, curve out to a point, and come back down to meet the side of the body.
Step 4: Big round eyes
Under the cap, draw two big circles side by side. Make them the same size so your owl looks wide awake.
Step 5: Pupils and beak
Fill each eye with a small solid dot. Then draw a little rounded triangle pointing down between the eyes for the beak.
Step 6: Wing outlines
At the bottom of each side line, draw a curved line that bends in toward the belly, like the outer edge of a wing. Make the left and right match.
Step 7: The open book
Between the wings, draw a straight line down the middle for the spine. Draw a flat top edge and a short side line on each page. Close the bottom with a gentle curve under each page.
Step 8: Words, hands and cord
Draw three short curved lines on each page to show the words. Add a small curved line at the top of each wing to show it holding the book. Then draw the cord from the cap so it hangs down beside the right ear.
Step 9: Little feet
At the bottom of the body, draw two small ovals side by side, tucked under the belly.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing an owl with a book
- Draw the two eye circles at the same height and about the same size, so the owl looks friendly instead of lopsided.
- Draw the line down the middle of the book first, then build each page out from it so both sides match.
- Draw the cap diamond lightly. Its corners stick out past the head, so leave room on both sides of the page.

Owl with a book fun fact for kids
Owls cannot move their eyes in their sockets, so they turn their heads instead. Many owls can turn their heads about three quarters of the way around.
