Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The head
Draw a rounded rectangle, like a loaf of bread, near the top middle of the page. This is the capybara's boxy head.
Step 3: Back and tub rim
Start at the right side of the head and draw a big smooth hill that curves down to the right for the back. Keep going around into a wide, flat oval that sweeps left along the bottom and ends in the middle, for the top edge of the hot spring.
Step 4: The neck
Draw one short, gently curved line down from the bottom of the head. It shows where the neck slips into the water.
Step 5: Front of the tub
Draw a wide, shallow curve under the oval, starting at the left edge and ending at the right edge. This is the front wall of the hot spring.
Step 6: Orange, face and ripples
On top of the head, draw a small circle with a tiny leaf for a floating orange. Add a little loop for the ear at the top right of the head, a tiny curved line for a sleepy eye, and a short curved line at the bottom left for the cheek. Then draw two wavy lines on the water inside the tub.
Step 7: Rising steam
Draw three tall wiggly lines floating up above the hot spring, like squiggly snakes standing on their tails. Keep them about the same height and spaced apart.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a capybara in a hot spring
- Draw the head as a rounded rectangle, not a circle. A flat top and a blunt, boxy face is what makes it look like a capybara.
- Make the back one smooth hill. Start at the head and draw in one slow motion so the line does not get wobbly.
- Draw the wavy lines with a relaxed hand. Think of gentle hills and valleys, and keep the three steam lines about the same height.
