How to Draw a Duck (Easy Step by Step)
A little duck is a great first animal to draw because it is made mostly of round shapes. You will use a big circle for the head, a soft bean shape for the body, and an oval for the wing. A small curled tail and a tiny tuft of feathers give it lots of personality.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The head
Draw a big circle for the duck's head near the upper left of your page. Make it nice and round.
Step 3: The body
Start at the lower left of the head and draw a big, round bean shape that curves down and around to a flat bottom. Then curve up the right side and bring the line back across the top to touch the head on the right.
Step 4: The beak
On the left side of the head, draw a small half-moon shape that sticks out like a little paddle. Add one short line across the middle to show where the beak opens.
Step 5: The eye
Near the middle of the head, a little above the beak, draw one small round dot for the eye.
Step 6: The little tail
At the right end of the body, draw a short line that sticks out and curls up into a small hook. Make it just big enough to see.
Step 7: The wing
In the lower middle of the body, draw a rounded oval shape that is a little pointy at one end. This is the duck's wing.
Step 8: The head tuft
On top of the head, draw a tiny curved loop that sticks up like a little tuft of feathers.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a duck
- Draw the head first and let the body tuck in just below it, so the two shapes touch and the duck looks like it has a neck.
- The beak is the trickiest part. Think of a small half-moon, then add one short line across it so it looks like it can open.
- Draw the wing as a rounded oval in the lower middle of the body, and keep it away from the edges of the body so it stays easy to see.

How to color your duck drawing
Try bright yellow for the body and head, orange for the beak, and a lighter yellow for the wing. For a creative twist, give your duck a rain hat and draw blue puddles around it.
Duck fun fact for kids
Ducks have waterproof feathers. They spread oil from a gland near their tail over their feathers, and that oil helps water roll right off.
