How to draw a baby owl step by step

How to Draw a Baby Owl · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.

  2. Step 2: The big round head

Draw a big wide oval near the top of the page for the head. Leave lots of room underneath for the body.

  3. Step 3: The fluffy body

Under the head, draw a big round body that starts at one side of the bottom of the head and ends at the other. Make the edge bumpy to look like soft baby feathers, and leave a small gap at the bottom.

  4. Step 4: Two little wings

On each side of the tummy, draw a long curved line from near the top of the body down to the bottom. Each line closes off a skinny leaf shape with the body edge to make a wing.

  5. Step 5: Big round eyes

Inside the head, draw two big circles side by side, like round glasses. Make them the same size and keep a small gap between them in the middle.

  6. Step 6: Beak and pupils

Between the eyes, draw a tiny upside-down triangle for the beak. Then add a small round dot in the middle of each eye for the pupils.

  7. Step 7: Tiny feet

At the bottom of the body, draw two small flat ovals side by side for the feet. Let them sit right at the bottom edge of the tummy.

  8. Step 8: Feather marks

On the tummy, draw two rows of short curvy smile lines, two in each row. These little marks make the owl look fluffy.

  9. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a baby owl

  • Draw the two eye circles the same size and keep a small gap between them. Keep them near the middle of the head.
  • The wavy edge of the body is the trickiest part. Make short little bumps instead of one long line, like a cloud.
  • Draw the beak small and low between the eyes. A tiny beak makes your owl look cuter than a big one.

How to color your baby owl drawing

Try soft browns and tan for the body, with bright yellow or orange for the eyes and beak. For a creative twist, color your owl as a night owl with a deep blue body and a few yellow stars around it.

Baby owl fun fact for kids

Owls cannot move their eyes in their sockets, so they turn their heads instead. Many owls can twist their necks about three quarters of the way around, which is far more than people can.
