Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: Sides of the head
Draw two curved lines for the sides of a big wide head, like the left and right sides of an egg lying on its side. Leave the top and the bottom middle open for now.
Step 3: The pointy ears
At each top corner of the head, draw a small pointed ear, like a little cat ear. Start each ear on the head, go up to a point, and come back down to the head.
Step 4: The Santa hat
Draw a rounded dome on top of the head, then a long rounded rectangle across the bottom of the dome for the fluffy brim. Add a small circle at the right side for the pom-pom.
Step 5: Big round eyes
Draw two big circles side by side in the middle of the face. Leave them empty for now.
Step 6: Pupils, beak and smile
Put a small dot in the middle of each eye circle for the pupils. Between the eyes, draw a tiny beak, then a small wavy smile below it.
Step 7: Body sides and strip
Under the head, draw a short curved line on each side for the sides of the body. In the middle, draw a small U shape hanging down, and add a tiny curve near the bottom for the tummy.
Step 8: Scarf and wings
Draw a long rounded rectangle across the neck for the scarf, so the hanging U shape comes down from it. Then draw a leaf-shaped wing on each side of the body.
Step 9: Little feet
At the bottom of the body, draw two flat ovals side by side for the feet. Let their tops touch the body.
Step 10: Feathery tummy
On the tummy, draw a few short wavy lines, like little waves, to show soft feathers.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a Christmas owl
- Draw the sides of the head first and leave the top open, so the hat has a place to sit.
- Make the two eyes the same size by drawing the left one, then matching it on the right with the same gap from the center.
- Keep the beak and smile tiny so the big eyes stay the star of the face.
- Draw the scarf after the little hanging strip, so the strip looks like it comes down from the scarf.

How to color your Christmas owl drawing
Try a warm brown for the body, red and white for the hat and scarf, and yellow for the beak. For a creative twist, give the scarf bright stripes or draw tiny snowflakes in the background.
Christmas owl fun fact for kids
Owls can turn their heads about three quarters of the way around, which helps them look for food without moving their bodies. Their eyes are fixed in place, so turning the head is how they look around.
