Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: Top of the head
Draw the top and sides of a big rounded box on the left side of your page, like a loaf of bread standing on its end. Leave the bottom open for now and keep the corners soft.
Step 3: Body and chin
Start at the right side of the head and draw a long, gentle hill that curves over the back and down to the ground. Close it with a flat line along the bottom, then draw a curved line under the head for the chin and chest.
Step 4: Three feet
Draw three flat ovals sitting on the ground, like little pancakes: two close together under the front, and one at the back.
Step 5: Back leg
On the back end of the body, draw a curved line shaped like a letter C that bends along the back and ends near the bottom line. This is the round thigh.
Step 6: Sleepy face
Draw a small half-moon shape for the sleepy eye. Then add a short curved smile line near the front of the face, with a tiny curve below it for the chin.
Step 7: The scarf
Under the head, draw a long skinny rectangle wrapped around the neck. Then draw a thin, tall scarf tail hanging down from it toward the ground.
Step 8: Hat band and hat
On top of the head, draw a long skinny rounded rectangle for the hat band. Then draw a curved line that rises from the left end of the band and arches up and over to the right.
Step 9: Hat tip and pom-pom
Draw a curved line that flows from the hat band out to the side, then finish with a small circle at the end for the fluffy pom-pom.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a Christmas capybara
- Draw the head first and leave plenty of room on the right, so the long body has space to stretch out.
- The scarf is the trickiest part. Draw the wide band first, then add the thin tail hanging down, so the lines meet neatly.
- Make the three feet flat, wide ovals so the capybara looks like it is resting calmly on the ground.
