Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The big round head
Draw a big wide oval in the upper part of your paper. Make it a little wider than it is tall, and leave room underneath for the body.
Step 3: Body sides
Under the head, draw two curved lines for the sides of the body. Start each one where the bottom of the head curves in, and bend them down and toward each other, leaving the bottom open.
Step 4: Floppy ears
On each top corner of the head, draw a small rounded ear shaped like half an oval. Then add a short curved line inside each ear to show where it folds over.
Step 5: Two little feet
At the bottom of the body, draw two small ovals side by side for the feet. Let them touch in the middle so they close up the bottom of the body.
Step 6: The muzzle
In the middle of the lower head, draw a wide oval for the muzzle. Make it about half as wide as the head.
Step 7: Eyes and wrinkles
Above the muzzle, draw two round dots for eyes, with space between them. Then draw two short curved lines on the forehead, one above the other, for the pug's wrinkles.
Step 8: Nose and smile
At the top of the muzzle, draw a small rounded triangle and fill it in for the nose. Just below it, draw a little wavy line like a tiny letter W for a happy smile.
Step 9: Toes on the feet
Inside each foot, draw two short, thick lines standing side by side. These are the toes.
Step 10: The curly tail
Off to the right of the body, draw a small circle. Inside it, draw a swirl like a snail shell, so the tail looks curled up tight.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a pug
- Draw the head oval nice and wide before anything else. The pug's face is the star, so give it room and leave space below for the body.
- Draw the head first, then add each ear so it touches the head on its top corner. Keep the ears small and rounded.
- Keep the tail circle small and draw the swirl inside slowly. If the swirl gets too tight, just make it a simple C shape instead.
