  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.

  2. Step 2: The inner oval

Draw a big, tall oval in the middle of your page. This is the juicy inside of the dragon fruit.

  3. Step 3: The wavy skin ring

Draw a wavy, bumpy line around the first oval, leaving a small gap between them. Start at the top right, go down around the bottom and up the left side, and stop near the top left. Leave the top open for now.

  4. Step 4: Leaves on top

Along the top, draw pointy leaves like flames. Make the middle one the tallest, then add a shorter leaf on each side leaning outward.

  5. Step 5: Leaves on the right

Draw pointy, curved leaves down the right side of the ring. Each one starts at the ring, goes out to a point, and comes back to the ring.

  6. Step 6: Leaves on left and bottom

Finish the leaves around the left side and the bottom of the ring. Keep each one a triangle with a curvy tip, so the fruit looks like a spiky sun.

  7. Step 7: Two round eyes

Inside the inner oval, draw two round dots for eyes. Put them side by side, a little below the middle.

  8. Step 8: Smile, seeds and ring top

Draw a little curved smile between the eyes. Then dot tiny seeds around the face, and close the skin ring across the top by drawing a curved line from the top left to the top.

  9. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a dragon fruit

  • Draw the inner oval first, then the wavy ring around it with an even gap, so the skin looks neat all the way around.
  • Make the leaves different sizes. Start with the tall one at the top, then fill in the sides so they do not bump into each other.
  • Scatter the seeds with space between them. Try not to line them up in rows, and keep them away from the eyes and smile.

How do I make my dragon fruit look cuter?

Draw the eyes as round dots a little below the middle of the inner oval, and put a small smile between them. Keep the seeds small so the face stands out.
