Step 1: The pointed top
Start at the left side and draw a long, gentle curve that rises up to a small rounded peak in the middle. Then curve back down to finish at the right side, so it looks like a soft mountain with wide, flat ends.
Step 2: The left wing edge
Start where the left end of the top line stops and draw a long curve sloping down and in toward the middle. Finish near the bottom center with a tiny hook, like the start of a small point.
Step 3: The right wing edge
Start at the right end of the top line and draw a matching curve sloping down toward the middle. Meet the left side at the bottom with a little dip, so the body looks like a kite.
Step 4: Two round eyes
Draw two small round dots in the upper middle of the body, side by side. Make them the same size and leave a gap between them.
Step 5: A happy smile
Below and between the eyes, draw a small curve like a little bowl or a letter U. Keep it short so your stingray looks friendly.
Step 6: The long tail
Start at the little dip at the bottom of the body and draw one short, straight line going down. Make it a little longer than the smile is wide.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a stingray
- Draw the top and the two sides with long, smooth curves instead of short, choppy lines.
- Try to make the left and right sides match. Look at the ends of the top line and check that they sit at the same height.
- Place the eyes and smile close together in the upper middle of the body. This keeps the face cute and leaves room for the wings.

How to color your stingray drawing
Try ocean blues and soft grays for the body, with a lighter color near the middle. For a creative twist, add sandy spots, tiny bubbles around the stingray, or a sea floor with shells below it.
Stingray fun fact for kids
A stingray's skeleton is made of cartilage, the same bendy material in your ears and nose, instead of hard bone. Sharks have cartilage skeletons too.
Questions about drawing a stingray
What shapes do I need to draw a stingray?
Think of a big kite shape with a rounded peak on top and soft corners on the sides. Then add two dots for eyes, a small U for a smile and a short straight line for the tail.
How do I make my stingray look cuter?
Keep the eyes as small, round dots with a gap between them, and keep the smile small and curved. Soft, rounded ends on the wings also help.
Why does my stingray look lopsided?
Lightly sketch a vertical line down the middle first. Then compare each side to the other as you draw, and fix any curve that is too high or too low.
