Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The head dome
Draw a big curved line like an upside-down bowl. Leave the bottom open for now, because the wings will help close in the body later.
Step 3: The feet
Near the bottom of the page, draw a short wavy line with a foot at each end. Give each foot three little toes.
Step 4: The wings
On each side, draw a tall leaf shape that starts below the head and points down. Then draw a short curved line from the bottom tip of each wing to the foot on that side.
Step 5: The eyes
Halfway down the face, draw two round dots with space between them. Color them in so they are solid.
Step 6: The beak
Between the eyes and a little lower, draw a small rounded shape like an upside-down teardrop. Make the bottom end a little pointy.
Step 7: The chest feathers
Under the head, draw a wavy line with three soft bumps from one wing across to the other. It looks like a fluffy collar.
Step 8: The feather crest
On top of the head, draw one tall pointed leaf in the middle. Then add a smaller leaf leaning left and another leaning right, like a little crown.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a harpy eagle
- Draw the head dome first and keep it big. The wings, eyes and crest all line up around it, so a good curve makes everything else easier.
- Draw the wings as tall leaf shapes, wide at the top and pointy at the bottom. Try to make both wings about the same length.
- The wavy chest line is the trickiest part. Make three bumps of about the same size, and sketch it lightly first so you can fix it.

Questions about drawing a harpy eagle

How do I make my harpy eagle look cuter?
Make the eyes big and round and put them a little low on the face. A rounder head and a tiny beak also make the bird look sweeter.
