How to Draw a Saxophone (Easy Step by Step)
A saxophone is fun to draw because it looks like a big curvy letter J with a row of round buttons. You will build it from a long tube, a U-shaped curve, a tilted oval for the bell, a bent neck and four small circles. Add two floating music notes and your drawing looks like it is playing a tune.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Outer tube and curve
Start at the top left and draw a short flat line, then bring a long line straight down the left side. Curve it around the bottom like a U and sweep it up toward the right, ending in a slanted line.
Step 3: Inner curve and bell
Start at the top of the tube and draw a straight line down on the right side. Curve it into a small U at the bottom, then bend it up and to the right. Finish with a tilted oval at the top of that curve for the bell.
Step 4: The neck
On top of the tube, draw two curved lines side by side that bend over to the left like a candy cane. Close the end with a small curl for the mouthpiece.
Step 5: Round keys
Draw four small circles in a neat column down the middle of the tube. Join them with short straight lines.
Step 6: First music note
To the upper right of the neck, draw a small oval. Add a straight line going up from its right side and finish with a little curved flag at the top.
Step 7: Second music note
Draw another note a little higher and to the right. Make an oval, a straight stem going up, and a curved flag at the top.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a saxophone
- The curved bottom is the trickiest part. Draw the outside curve first, then add the inside curve so the two lines stay about the same distance apart.
- Draw the bell as a tilted oval. A round circle will look like a plate, so squish it and lean it to the right.
- Use a bottle cap or a coin to trace the round keys so they all match, then join them with short lines.

How to color your saxophone drawing
Color the saxophone shiny gold or brass yellow and the keys a darker orange. Give each music note its own bright color, like a rainbow of sound.
Saxophone fun fact for kids
A saxophone is made of brass metal, but it is played with a thin piece of cane called a reed, so it belongs to the woodwind family. A Belgian instrument maker named Adolphe Sax invented it in the 1840s.
Questions about drawing a saxophone
What shapes do I need to draw a saxophone?
You need a long tube, a U-shaped curve at the bottom, a tilted oval for the bell, and a bent tube for the neck. Four small circles make the keys.
How do I make my saxophone look shiny?
Leave a few thin white streaks along one side of the tube when you color it. Use a lighter yellow near the streaks and a darker gold on the other side.
How do I draw the curve at the bottom?
Think of the letter J in a smooth swoop. Draw it lightly in pencil first, fix any wobbly parts, then go over it with a darker line.
