Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The big round head
Draw a big, wide circle near the top of your page. Leave lots of room underneath for the body.
Step 3: Face, neck and arm start
Add two small dots for eyes and a little curved smile. Draw two short lines down from the head for the neck, then a small curved collar between them. From the right neck line, start a bumpy curve heading out to the side.
Step 4: Outstretched arm
Finish the arm on the right by drawing a long, curved leaf shape that stretches out to the side. Draw a long line along the bottom of the arm that ends in a little flick.
Step 5: Dress and other arm
On the left, draw a short bent arm with a small round hand at the bottom. Then draw a straight line down from the right neck line, and join the sides with a flat line along the bottom to make the dress.
Step 6: Belt and shoes
Draw a gently curved stripe across the dress for a belt. Under the dress, add two tiny leg lines and two flat ovals for shoes that touch in the middle.
Step 7: The big diya
At the end of the outstretched arm, draw a wide bowl shape with a flat top and a round bottom. Add a small foot underneath, then a pointed teardrop flame standing on top.
Step 8: Glow lines and little bowl
Around the big flame, draw three short dashes pointing outward: one straight up and one on each side. Then, on the ground at the lower left, draw a small half-circle bowl.
Step 9: The little flame
On top of the little bowl, draw a tiny teardrop flame. Add three short lines around it: one straight up and one on each side.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a kid with a diya lamp
- Draw the head circle first and make it big. A large head makes the kid look friendly and gives you room to fit the face.
- The flame is the trickiest part. Start with a pointed tip at the top, then curve down each side like a drop of water and meet at the bottom.
- Draw the glow lines after each flame and keep them about the same length. Pointing them away from the flame makes it look like it is shining.
