Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Hat, head and body outline
Start at a point at the top and draw down both sides to make a pointy hat shape. Keep going out into a round head, in a little at the neck, then down the sides of the body to a flat bottom.
Step 3: Pom-pom and hat bands
Draw a small circle on the very tip of the hat for the pom-pom. Then draw two curved lines across the hat, one near the bottom edge and one just above it.
Step 4: The smiling face
Draw two small dots for eyes in the middle of the head. Draw a little curved smile between and below them.
Step 5: Chin line
Draw a gentle curved line across the bottom of the head, from one side to the other, to show the chin and where the body starts.
Step 6: Body stripes
Draw two slightly wavy lines straight across the body, one above the other, to make the stripes on the shirt.
Step 7: The arms
On the left side, draw a long thin oval hanging down for the arm. On the right side, draw a curved line starting at the body and reaching up and out for the other arm.
Step 8: Legs and shoes
Draw two short little lines going down from the bottom of the body for legs. Then draw a flat oval at the bottom of each leg for the shoes.
Step 9: The sparkler
At the end of the raised arm, draw a small circle for the hand. Draw a thin stick going up from it, then a tiny circle at the top with short lines shooting out all around it like a star.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a kid with a sparkler
- Start at the tip of the hat and draw down each side in one smooth line. The head and body are all part of the same outline, so try not to lift your pencil too often.
- The sparkler is the trickiest part. Draw a tiny circle first, then add short dashes all around it, like the numbers on a clock.
- Make the two shoes the same size by drawing the left one first, then matching the right one beside it at the same height.
