How to Draw a Ladybug (Easy Step by Step)
A ladybug is one of the friendliest bugs to draw, and it is made almost entirely from circles. You will use one big circle for the body, a dome shape for the head, and a handful of rings for the spots. Once you can draw a round shape, you can draw this ladybug.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The round body
Draw a big circle near the bottom of your paper. Leave some room above it for the head.
Step 3: The head top
Start on the left side of the top of the body and draw a curved line up and over, like a dome. End on the right side of the body's top, so the head looks like it peeks out from behind the body.
Step 4: The wing line
Start at the top of the body and draw one straight line down the middle until it touches the bottom. This splits the shell into two wings.
Step 5: Antennae and face
Draw two short curved lines going up from the top of the head, bending outward. Then add two small dots for eyes and a little curved smile between them.
Step 6: Middle spots
Draw two circles low on the wings, one on each side of the center line. Make them about the same size.
Step 7: Top spots
Draw two circles higher up on the wings, near the head and a little away from the center line. Match the left one to the right one.
Step 8: Bottom spots
Draw two small circles near the bottom of the shell, one on each wing. They are the smallest spots, so they fit in the last empty space.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a ladybug
- Draw the body circle first and keep it big. Everything else sits on it, so a roomy body makes the spots easier to fit.
- Let the head dome meet the top of the body, so the head looks like it is peeking out from behind the shell.
- Draw the center line before the spots. Then you can put each pair of spots the same distance from the line, and the wings will look balanced.

How to color your ladybug drawing
Color the shell bright red and the head and spots black, which is the classic ladybug look. For a creative twist, give your ladybug rainbow spots, with each circle in a different color.
Ladybug fun fact for kids
Ladybugs are beetles, not true bugs. Like all beetles, they have hard front wings that cover the thin wings they use to fly.
Questions about drawing a ladybug
What shapes do I need to draw a ladybug?
You only need circles and curved lines. Use one big circle for the body, a dome for the head, small circles for the spots, and a few curved lines for the antennae and smile.
How do I make my ladybug look cuter?
Keep the two dot eyes wide apart and add a small curved smile. Rounder, chubbier spots also help.
How do I make the spots look even on both sides?
Draw the line down the middle first, then put each spot on the left and match it with one on the right at the same height. Try making the spots in each pair about the same size.
