Step 1: Bumpy shell and head
Draw a wavy, cloud-like line for the bumpy top of the shell, starting at the back and curving over the top. Keep going down the left side into a rounded head shape that ends in a small curl at the bottom.
Step 2: The belly line
Draw a long, gently curved line along the bottom of the body, starting near the chin and ending at the back, where it curls up a little. This closes the body.
Step 3: The four legs
Under the belly line, draw four short rectangles with rounded bottoms, standing side by side. Make them about the same size so your dinosaur stands steady.
Step 4: The tail club
At the back of the body, draw a round circle that touches the end of the tail. This is the heavy club the Ankylosaurus swings.
Step 5: The eye
On the head, draw one small filled dot for the eye. Add a tiny speck near the front of the face for the nostril.
Step 6: Two shell rings
On the upper part of the shell, draw two small rings side by side, one on the left and one on the right. Make each one a small circle with a tiny circle inside.
Step 7: Middle shell ring
Between the first two rings and a little lower, draw one more small ring, a circle with a tiny circle inside.
Step 8: Two lower rings
Draw two more small rings lower down on the shell, side by side. Make them the same size as the other rings so the pattern looks tidy.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing an Ankylosaurus
- Draw the bumpy back in one slow, wavy line, making each bump a little curve. Do not worry if the bumps are different sizes, because that makes it look more like real armor.
- Draw the four legs as rectangles with rounded bottoms. Try to keep them the same height so the dinosaur does not look like it is tipping over.
- Draw the tail club as a round circle at the back of the body. Its size is up to you, but a big club looks fun.

Try green or brown for the body and a lighter tan for the legs. For a creative twist, color each shell ring a different bright color, like a dinosaur wearing buttons.
Ankylosaurus fun fact for kids
Ankylosaurus had a heavy bony club at the end of its tail, and its back was covered in thick bony plates called armor.

How do I make my Ankylosaurus look cuter?
Make the eye dot a little bigger and keep the legs short and chubby. A big round tail club also makes it look friendlier.
