How to Draw a Spinosaurus (Easy Step by Step)
The spinosaurus is fun to draw because of its giant sail, which is just a tall arch standing on its back. The whole dinosaur is built from simple shapes: a round body, a long narrow head, a leaf-shaped tail, and two short legs. Once you know the shapes, you can draw it again and again.

Step 1: Curved belly line
Near the bottom middle of your page, draw a curved line like a smile or a bowl. This is the bottom of the round body, so leave the top open for now.
Step 2: Neck, head and back
Start at the left end of the belly curve and draw a line up for the neck. Stretch it left into a long, narrow head with a rounded snout, then bring the line back along the top to the right, ending above the right end of the belly curve.
Step 3: The tall sail
On the back, draw a tall arch like an upside-down U standing up. Start at the back line, curve up and over, and come back down to the back line a little farther right.
Step 4: Sail stripes
Inside the sail, draw three straight lines going up from the bottom of the sail. Space them out evenly, and stop each one before the top.
Step 5: The pointy tail
At the right side of the body, draw a tail shaped like a leaf. Start at the back line, curve out to the right to a point, then come back to the belly curve.
Step 6: Two sturdy legs
Under the body, draw two tall, narrow shapes like upside-down U's with flat, rounded bottoms. Put them side by side, with the tops joined to the belly.
Step 7: Eye and nostril
Add a round dot for the eye near the middle of the head. Then put a tiny dot near the tip of the snout for the nostril.
Step 8: The little arm
On the front of the body, below the neck, draw a short curved line that bends like a hook. This is the small arm tucked against the chest.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a spinosaurus
- Draw the curved belly line first and keep it wide, so there is plenty of room for the neck, sail and tail to join it.
- The long head is the trickiest part. Keep the top line sloping gently and the bottom line almost straight so the snout looks long and narrow.
- Draw the three sail stripes straight up from the bottom of the sail and stop before the top, so they stay inside the sail and do not poke out.

How to color your spinosaurus drawing
Try green or orange for the body and a bright red or orange sail, with lighter stripes inside it. For a creative twist, give the sail a rainbow pattern or add a blue river for your spinosaurus to stand in.
Spinosaurus fun fact for kids
The name Spinosaurus means "spine lizard." It was given to this dinosaur because of the long bony spines on its back that held up its sail.
