Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The outer ring
Draw a big circle in the upper left of your paper. Leave a little bump near the bottom right, because the handle will join there.
Step 3: The glass circle
Draw a second circle inside the first one, about a finger's width away from the edge. This is the glass you look through.
Step 4: The handle
Starting at the bottom right of the ring, draw two long straight lines going down toward the corner of the page. Close the end with a rounded curve, like a sausage tip.
Step 5: The handle bands
Across the handle near the ring, draw two short straight lines to make a band. Each one should connect the two long handle lines.
Step 6: The ladybug body
In the middle of the glass, draw a round, plump body like a pear, a little narrower at the top. Leave a small gap at the top where the head will go.
Step 7: Bug and shine details
Draw a line down the middle of the body and a curved line across the top for the head. Add a few dots on the back and two curly antennae. Finish with a short curved shine mark in the upper left of the glass.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a magnifying glass
- Draw the two circles slowly and keep the same gap all the way around, so the ring looks even.
- Make the handle lines parallel by keeping them the same distance apart as you go. A ruler or the edge of a card can help.
- Draw the ladybug's dots last and keep them evenly spaced on each side of the middle line.

How to color your magnifying glass drawing
Color the ring and handle gold or silver, the bug bright red with black dots, and leave the glass pale blue. For a twist, draw a different tiny creature under the glass, like a bee or a snail.
Magnifying glass fun fact for kids
A magnifying glass uses a curved lens that bends light, which makes small things look bigger.
