How to draw a dump truck step by step

How to Draw a Dump Truck · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: The dump bed

Draw a big tilted box on the left side, like a rectangle that is leaning back. Make the top edge slope up toward the right.

  2. Step 2: The cab

On the right, draw a tall rounded shape for the driver's cab. Start low at the back, go up and over the roof, slant down for the windshield, then curve around the nose of the truck and stop near the bottom.

  3. Step 3: Frame and back wheel

Draw a long flat bar under the dump bed that reaches over to the cab. Add a second shorter bar just below it, and draw a round wheel shape at the back end on the left.

  4. Step 4: The lifting arm

Draw a short slanted line from the bottom of the dump bed down to the frame. This is the arm that pushes the bed up.

  5. Step 5: The other two tires

Draw two more big circles for tires: one in the middle under the dump bed and one under the cab. Let their tops tuck up against the frame.

  6. Step 6: Wheel hubs

Draw a small circle in the middle of each of the three tires to make the hubcaps.

  7. Step 7: Window and door handle

Draw a small box with one slanted side for the cab window. Then add a short line on the front edge of the truck for the handle.

  8. Step 8: The pile of dirt

On top of the dump bed, draw two round humps that start on the top edge and bulge upward. Make one a little bigger than the other, like two little hills.

  9. All done!

Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a dump truck

  • Draw the dump bed leaning back, with the top edge sloping up to the right. The slant is what makes it look like it is tipping.
  • Draw the big tire circles first and the little hub circles after. Keep each hub in the center of its tire.
  • Start each dirt hump on the top edge of the bed and curve it upward, so the pile looks like it is sitting in the bed.

Try a bright yellow or orange body with black tires and gray hubs, and brown for the dirt. For a twist, fill the dirt pile with colorful pebbles or gold treasure.

Dump truck fun fact for kids

A dump truck has a bed that tilts up on a strong lifting arm, so the load slides out the back all at once instead of being shoveled out by hand.

Questions about drawing a dump truck

What shapes do I need to draw a dump truck?

You need a tilted rectangle for the bed, a rounded shape for the cab, and circles for the wheels. A small box makes the window and two round humps make the dirt.

How do I make the wheels look round?

Trace around a cup or a coin for each tire, or sketch a light circle first and go over it. Draw all three wheels about the same size so they match.

How do I show the dump bed tipping up?

Slant the bed so its top edge climbs up toward the right, and add a short arm under it. That tells your eye the bed is tilted.
