Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The round head
Draw a big, slightly squashed circle for the head. Leave a little gap at the bottom where the neck will go.
Step 3: The body
Under the head, draw a short straight line for the shoulders. Then draw a rounded box shape hanging down from it for the body, leaving the left side open.
Step 4: Cap brim and bands
Draw two long, thin ovals, one on top of the other, straight across the middle of the head. Make them stick out a little past the head on both sides.
Step 5: The cap badge
On the top part of the cap, draw a small oval. Add a short straight line sticking out on each side to make wings.
Step 6: The raised arm
Start at the side of the body on the right and draw a long sausage shape pointing outward. Finish it with a small circle for the hand.
Step 7: The shoes
Below the body, draw two wide ovals side by side for the shoes. Add a tiny line above the right shoe for the leg.
Step 8: The paper plane
Above the raised hand, draw a small pointed shape like a leaf or a paper plane. Add a short line sticking out from the tip.
Step 9: Face, collar and sleeves
Add two small dots for eyes and a little curved smile. Draw a V shape for the collar with a small knot at the bottom. Then draw the other arm on the left with short stripes and a round hand, add stripes on the raised arm, and add a short leg line by the left shoe.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a pilot
- Draw the cap brim and bands as two long, thin ovals that stick out past both sides of the head. They make this a pilot, so take your time with them.
- The striped sleeves are the trickiest part. Draw the arm shape first, then add the stripes as short, even lines across it.
- Keep the paper plane small and pointed. Draw the pointed shape first, then add the short line at the tip.
