Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The round head
Draw a big round circle near the top left of your page, like a balloon. Stop just before the circle closes at the bottom, so it has a small gap for the neck.
Step 3: Face and body
Add two small dots for eyes and a little curved smile inside the head. Then draw a rounded box under the head for the body, a bit narrower than the head, with a flat bottom.
Step 4: Shirt stripes
Draw three straight lines across the body, one above the other, to make the stripes on the shirt. Keep them roughly the same distance apart.
Step 5: Legs and shoes
Draw one short straight line down the middle of the bottom of the body. Then draw two short straight legs below it, and finish each leg with a flat oval shoe, side by side.
Step 6: The arms
On the left side of the body, draw a small rounded oval for the arm with a tiny hand at the bottom. On the right, draw a long curved arm stretching out from the shoulder and ending in a small loop for the hand.
Step 7: The paper airplane
Up high on the right, draw a small paper airplane with its pointy tip toward the top right. Add a few slanted fold lines to make the wings and the center fold.
Step 8: The swirly trail
Start at the back of the airplane and draw a wavy line curving down toward the hand. Add one little loop along the way, like the plane just did a trick.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a kid with a paper airplane
- Draw the big circle for the head first and leave room on the right for the long arm and the airplane.
- The plane is the trickiest part. Make it small, point the tip toward the top right, then add the fold lines one at a time.
- For the swirly trail, draw it slowly in one smooth line and make the loop a little oval, not a perfect circle.
