How to draw a kid with a yo-yo step by step

How to Draw a Kid with a Yo-Yo · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.

  2. Step 2: The head outline

Draw a big rounded shape for the head, a little wider at the cheeks. Start at the neck on the left, curve up and over the top, and come down to the neck on the right. Leave the bottom open.

  3. Step 3: The backwards cap

Draw a slightly curved line across the forehead for the cap band. Add two bendy lines going up from it, then a small loop sticking out on the left for the back of the cap.

  4. Step 4: The apron body

Under the head, draw a short curved line for the collar. Then draw the body below it with two sides that go straight down and a flat bottom, like a squared-off box.

  5. Step 5: The arms

On the left, draw a small bean shape beside the body for the arm, with a little loop at the bottom for the hand. On the right, draw a long curved line reaching out from the shoulder, ending in a small hook for the hand.

  6. Step 6: Legs and shoes

Draw two short straight lines down from the bottom of the body for legs. Add a wide oval at the bottom of each leg for the shoes, side by side and touching.

  7. Step 7: The pocket

On the front of the body, draw a wide rounded shape, a little like a trapezoid, for the pocket.

  8. Step 8: Face, straps and yo-yo

Add two dots for eyes and a small curved smile. Draw a curved strap over each shoulder and two short lines on the chest. Then draw a small circle at the right hand, a straight string going down from it, and a big circle at the bottom with a small five-sided shape inside for the yo-yo.

  9. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a kid with a yo-yo

  • Draw the head outline first, then add the cap band across the top so the cap sits on the head.
  • The yo-yo string should hang straight down from the hand. Use a ruler edge or your pencil to line it up.
  • Draw the two shoe ovals so they touch in the middle. Start with the left one, then tuck the right one against it.
  • Save the eyes and smile for the last step, and keep them small and far apart.

Questions about drawing a kid with a yo-yo

What shapes do I need to draw a kid with a yo-yo?

You mostly need rounded shapes and ovals. Use a big rounded shape for the head, ovals for the shoes, a circle for the yo-yo, and a squared-off box for the body.

How do I make the kid look cuter?

Keep the eyes small and far apart, and add a small smile. Making the head big compared to the body helps too.

How do I draw the yo-yo so it looks like it is hanging?

Draw one straight line down from the hand, then put the circle at the end of it. A straight string makes it look like the yo-yo is dangling.
