How to Draw a Wizard: easy drawing guide for kids

How to Draw a Wizard (Easy Step by Step)

A wizard is a fun one to draw because it is built from simple shapes you already know. You will use a bell shape for the robe, long lines that meet in a point for the beard, an oval for the hat brim, a cone for the hat, and circles for the nose and staff. Add a little star on the hat and your wizard looks ready to cast a spell.

How to draw a wizard step by step

How to Draw a Wizard · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The robe

Draw a big rounded bell shape at the bottom, like a gentle hill with a flat bottom edge. This is the wizard's robe.

  3. Step 3: The belt

Draw a gently curved line across the robe, from one side to the other, like a smile. It is the wizard's belt.

  4. Step 4: Face sides and beard

Start high above the robe and draw two long lines going down, side by side. Near the robe, curve them in toward each other so they meet in a point, like a tall skinny V. This makes the sides of the face and the long beard.

  5. Step 5: The hat brim

Draw a wide, flat oval across the top of the face for the hat brim. It should be wider than the head.

  6. Step 6: The pointy hat

On top of the brim, draw a tall cone that curls over at the tip. Start and end the lines on the brim.

  7. Step 7: Eyes and nose

Draw two small round dots for eyes. Between them, a little lower, draw a small circle for the nose.

  8. Step 8: The mustache

Under the nose, draw one wavy line that sweeps out to each side and curls up at the ends, like a big mustache.

  9. Step 9: The magic staff

Next to the wizard, draw a long straight line standing up. Add a big circle at the top and a small circle partway down. Then draw a short curved line from the small circle toward the robe for the hand.

  10. Step 10: Star and dot

On the hat, draw one little star and a small round dot above it.

  11. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a wizard

  • Draw the hat brim as a wide, flat oval before the cone. The cone then just sits on top and is easier to place.
  • The beard is the trickiest part. Start with two long lines at the sides of the face and bring both down to one point in the middle.
  • Leave a little space between the staff and the robe, then connect the hand with a small curve.
  • Draw the star and dot last, so they do not bump into the hat's outline.

How to color your wizard drawing

Try a deep purple or blue hat and robe, a white or gray beard, and a golden staff. For a creative twist, color the hat like the night sky and add a bright yellow star.

Wizard fun fact for kids

The word wizard comes from an old English word meaning wise, so a wizard was once simply a wise person.

Questions about drawing a wizard

What shapes do I need to draw a wizard?

You need a bell shape for the robe, a long pointed shape for the beard, a flat oval for the hat brim, a cone for the hat, and circles for the eyes, nose, and staff.

How do I make my wizard look friendlier?

Draw the mustache with big, curvy swoops that curl up at the ends, and keep the eyes round and wide apart.

How do I draw a wizard hat that bends over?

Draw a tall cone on top of the brim, and curl the very tip over to one side like a little hook. The bent tip makes the hat look floppy and magical.
