This violet flower has a happy face and a puffy five-petal top, so it is a great first flower to draw. It is built from round bumps, a long skinny stem, two pointy leaves, and a few simple curved lines. If you can draw a circle and a smile, you can draw this.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Top petal
Near the top of the page, draw a small rounded bump like an upside-down U or a little rainbow. Leave the bottom open, because the other petals will join it.
Step 3: Other four petals
Draw a round bump on the left and another on the right, starting where the top bump ends. Then add a bump lower down on each side, and leave a small gap at the bottom between them so the petals make a puffy flower shape.
Step 4: The stem
From the bottom middle of the flower, draw two lines going straight down, close together, like a long skinny stretched oval. Leave the bottom open.
Step 5: Two leaves
On each side of the stem, draw a leaf shaped like a pointy oval, like a lemon lying on its side. Start each leaf at the stem, curve out and down, and come back to the stem.
Step 6: Face and petal lines
Draw two round dots for eyes in the middle of the flower, side by side. Add a small curved smile below them, like a tiny bowl, and three short notch lines where the petals meet.
Step 7: Leaf veins
Inside each leaf, draw one slightly curved line from near the stem toward the leaf's tip. Then close the bottom of the stem with a tiny curve.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a violet flower
- Draw the top petal first, then make the other petals about the same size so the flower looks balanced.
- Keep the two stem lines close together and nearly parallel, since a wide stem will make the flower look heavy.
- Make the two eyes the same size and put the smile right between them, a little lower down.
