How to Draw Dice (Easy Step by Step)
Dice are fun to draw because they look tricky but are really just rounded hexagons and little ovals. You will build two tumbling cubes, then add dots and speed lines so they look like they are mid-roll.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: Big die outline
Draw a rounded six-sided shape in the lower left, like a hexagon with soft corners. Make it about as tall as it is wide.
Step 3: Big die edges
Start at the middle of the shape and draw a line down to the bottom corner. Then draw two lines from that same middle point going up and out to the left and right corners, so you see three faces.
Step 4: Small die outline
Draw a smaller rounded hexagon up and to the right of the big die, inside the light space above it. Keep the corners soft, just like the first one.
Step 5: Small die edges
Pick a point in the middle of the small shape and draw a line down to the bottom corner. Draw two more lines from that point up and out to the left and right corners to make three faces.
Step 6: Big die dots, motion lines
Add small slanted ovals to the big die: five on the top face, three across the left face, and two on the right face. Then draw three short straight lines to the left of the die to show it zooming along.
Step 7: Small die dots
Draw four little ovals on the top face of the small die, two on its left face, and one on its right face.
Step 8: Speed lines
Draw three short slanted lines up and to the left of the small die. Make them all slant the same way, like a trail it leaves behind.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing dice
- Draw three lines that meet at one point in the middle of each cube. This is what makes the flat shape look like a solid box.
- Keep the corners rounded and soft. Sharp corners make the dice look stiff instead of tumbling.
- Make the dots small slanted ovals and tilt them along each face so they seem to wrap around the cube.

How to color your dice drawing
Try red dice with white dots, or one red die and one blue die. For a creative twist, color the speed lines in a rainbow so the dice leave a colorful trail.
Dice fun fact for kids
On a standard die, opposite faces always add up to seven, so one is across from six, two is across from five, and three is across from four.
Questions about drawing dice
What shapes do I need to draw dice?
You need a rounded hexagon for each cube, three straight lines meeting in the middle, and small ovals for the dots. Short straight lines make the speed lines.
How do I make my dice look 3D?
Draw the three lines that meet at one point inside the cube, so you can see a top face and two side faces. Placing the dots on each face so they follow its slant adds more depth.
How do I make my dice look like they are rolling?
Add a few short straight lines beside the dice to show speed, and keep the two cubes at slightly different sizes and angles. That makes them look like they are tumbling.
