How to draw a board game step by step

How to Draw a Board Game · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: The game board

Draw a wide flat shape like a trapezoid, with a short top and a longer bottom. Then draw a long thin rectangle along the bottom to make the board's thick edge.

  2. Step 2: The grid of squares

Inside the board, draw a long rounded rectangle near the top and another near the bottom, both on the left side. Then draw two tall lines down the right side, joining the two rows to make the path of squares.

  3. Step 3: Pawns and markers

Between the two rows, draw two pawns side by side, each a small circle for the head with a little triangle body under it. Add a small dot in the top row, a ring in the bottom row, and a short upright line in each row to split off the first square.

  4. Step 4: Dots on the dice

At the bottom left, draw two small groups of dots with a short slanted line and a short upright line beside each. Make two dots for the first die and six dots in two columns for the second.

  5. Step 5: Cards behind

At the bottom right, draw two rounded squares, one peeking out a little higher and to the right of the other. These are the cards at the back of the pile.

  6. Step 6: Dice outlines

Around each group of dots, draw a rounded square for the front of the die. Add a slanted top and a skinny side so each one looks like a cube.

  7. Step 7: The front card

At the bottom right, draw a square with softly rounded corners in front of the other cards. Let the cards behind stop where they meet its edges.

  8. All done!

Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a board game

  • Draw the board as a wide trapezoid first and make the bottom edge longer than the top. This makes it look like it is lying flat on a table.
  • Draw the two rows of the grid first, then connect them with the tall lines on the right. Keep the rows the same length.
  • For the dice, place the dots first, then draw a rounded square around them. Add the slanted top and the thin side last so each die looks like a cube.
  • Draw the cards behind the front card first, then draw the front card on top so the back lines stop where they meet it.

Board game fun fact for kids

On a standard die, opposite faces always add up to seven, so a 1 is opposite a 6, a 2 is opposite a 5, and a 3 is opposite a 4.
