Step 1: Envelope body
Draw a wide rectangle with softly rounded corners, wider than it is tall. Then draw a short slanted line going up and inward from each top corner.
Step 2: The letter
Start at the top edge of the envelope and draw a line straight up. Draw a line across the top, then a line back down to the envelope's top edge, so the letter looks like it is peeking out.
Step 3: Seal and point
Above the middle of the letter, draw a small circle with a dot in the center. Then draw a slanted line from each side of the circle down to the top edge of the letter, making a little pointed tab.
Step 4: The front fold
Start at the bottom left corner and draw a line up to a point in the middle. Then draw a line down to the bottom right corner to make a wide, flat triangle.
Step 5: A smiling face
Inside the triangle, draw two small round dots for eyes. Add a little curved smile between them, like a tiny bowl.
Step 6: The stamp
In the upper right corner of the envelope, draw a small square with rounded corners. Then draw a small circle inside it.
Step 7: Wiggly writing
On the letter, draw rows of little wavy squiggles to look like handwriting. Draw three rows, and leave a bit of room at the top right for a heart.
Step 8: A little heart
In the top right corner of the letter, draw a small rounded heart shape. It is a sweet little note from you.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing an envelope
- Draw the envelope body first and the letter second. The letter should start at the top edge of the envelope, so it looks like it is tucked inside.
- The front fold is the trickiest part. Mark the point in the middle first, then draw a line to each bottom corner so both sides match.
- Make the squiggles with one smooth wavy motion, like a sleepy snake. They do not need to match, because real handwriting wiggles too.

How to color your envelope drawing
Try a cream or light blue envelope with a red stamp and a pink heart, then color the squiggles in dark blue. For a creative twist, draw a tiny picture of your own inside the stamp's circle.
Envelope fun fact for kids
The first postage stamp, the Penny Black, was made in England in 1840. Before stamps, the person who got the letter usually paid for the delivery.
Questions about drawing an envelope
What shapes do I need to draw an envelope?
You need rectangles with rounded corners for the envelope, the letter, and the stamp. A wide pointed fold makes the front, and small circles make the seal, the eyes, and the stamp's center.
How do I make my envelope look cuter?
Add a smile and two dot eyes to the front fold, then draw a little heart on the letter. You can also color the stamp a bright color.
How do I draw the letter so it looks like it is inside the envelope?
Draw the envelope first, then start the letter's side lines at the top edge of the envelope and go up. The envelope covers the bottom of the letter, so it looks tucked in.
