How to draw a teddy bear step by step

How to Draw a Teddy Bear · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The head

Draw a big curved line for the top of the teddy bear's head, like an upside-down U. Leave the bottom open for now, because the chin will be finished later.

  3. Step 3: The round ears

Draw a small circle on each top corner of the head. Let each circle touch the head and stop your line where it meets the head.

  4. Step 4: Body and leg curves

Lower on the page, draw a short slanted line on the left side. Then add a small smile-shaped curve and a long, gentle curve across the bottom. These are the first pieces of the tummy and legs.

  5. Step 5: Hands

Draw a small circle on each side of the body, level with the top of the tummy. These are the bear's paws, held out to the sides.

  6. Step 6: Feet and paw pads

At the bottom, draw a bigger circle for each foot, one on each side. Add a little smile-shaped curve inside each foot for the paw pad, and connect the right paw to its foot with a short slanted line.

  7. Step 7: The muzzle

On the lower part of the face, draw a small rounded oval that is a bit flat at the bottom. This is where the nose and mouth will go.

  8. Step 8: The belly patch

In the middle of the tummy, between the feet, draw a big circle. It is the soft round patch on the teddy bear's belly.

  9. Step 9: Face, bow and tummy line

Draw a small curve inside each ear, two dots for eyes above the muzzle, then a little nose and a smiling mouth inside the muzzle. Add a bow tie under the chin with two loops and a small knot, draw curved lines from the bow down to the paws, and finish with a straight line from the bow down to the belly patch.

  10. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a teddy bear

  • Draw lightly at first, then go over your lines once the shapes look right. It helps the bear look balanced instead of lopsided.
  • The ears touch the head, so stop each ear line where it meets the head. Don't draw a line through the head.
  • Make the two paws and two feet about the same size. Draw one, then copy it on the other side to keep them matching.

How to color your teddy bear drawing

Try warm browns and tans for the fur, with a lighter color on the muzzle, belly patch and paw pads. For a creative twist, make a rainbow teddy or give the bow tie polka dots.

Teddy bear fun fact for kids

The teddy bear is named after U.S. President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt. In 1902 he refused to shoot a bear on a hunting trip, and a cartoon of the moment inspired a toy maker to sell stuffed "Teddy's bears."

Questions about drawing a teddy bear

What shapes do I need to draw a teddy bear?

Mostly circles. You need a big curved line for the head, a big circle for the belly patch, and smaller circles for the ears, paws and feet.

How do I make my teddy bear look cuter?

Put the eyes wide apart above the muzzle, and keep the nose small. A big round head and a tiny smile make a bear look extra sweet.

Can I draw a teddy bear if I am not good at drawing?

Yes. Every part is a simple circle or curve, so you can follow along one step at a time. Draw lightly first and go over the lines once you like how it looks.
