How to Draw a Horse (Easy Step by Step)
A horse is a friendly animal to draw because it is built from big, simple shapes. You will use a long rounded body, a rounded head, straight legs, and bumpy curves for the mane. Once the shapes are in place, a few small dots and curves bring your horse to life.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Body, tail and outer legs
Start at the left of the horse's back and draw a long, gently curved line across the top for the back. Curve it down into a rounded belly, add a curvy tail on the right end, and draw two straight legs with little hooves, one at each end of the body.
Step 3: The head
At the top left, above the body, draw a rounded head shape that gets narrower toward the nose at the bottom left. Leave the right side of the head open so the neck can join the body.
Step 4: Bumpy mane
Starting at the top of the head, draw a row of small, bumpy cloud curves down the back of the neck. End the mane with a slanted line that reaches the horse's back.
Step 5: Ears and eye
Draw a tall pointed ear on top of the head and a small curved ear shape on its left. Then add a solid dot for the eye.
Step 6: Middle legs and hooves
Draw two more straight legs hanging down from the belly between the first two legs. Give each one a short, wide hoof at the bottom.
Step 7: Nose and smile
Add a tiny dot near the tip of the nose for a nostril. Then draw a small curved line below it for a friendly mouth.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a horse
- Start with the long back and belly large and wide, because the head, neck, and legs all need room around it.
- The mane is the trickiest part, so draw it as a row of small cloud bumps instead of one long wiggly line.
- Make all four legs about the same length and end them on the same ground line so your horse stands steady.

Horse fun fact for kids
Horses can sleep standing up. A special locking part in their legs lets them rest without falling over.
