How to Draw a Kid with a Butterfly Net · tinyhandscreate.com
Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The round head
Draw a big U shape for the head, a little left of the middle of your paper. Start at one point near the top, curve down and around, and stop at another point across from it. Leave the top open because the hat will cover it.
Step 3: The body
Under the head, draw a tall rectangle for the body. Start at the bottom of the head with a short, flat line across the top for the neck. The sides can lean in a tiny bit, and the bottom is flat with a small notch in the middle.
Step 4: The big hat
Draw a wide, flat oval across the top of the head for the hat brim. Then add a rounded dome on top for the crown.
Step 5: Hat band
Draw a thick curved stripe where the crown meets the brim. Make it hug the bottom of the dome.
Step 6: Happy face
Add two small round dots for eyes. Then draw a curvy smile like a little bowl between them.
Step 7: Arm and hand
On the right side of the body, draw a bent arm like a skinny sausage that slopes down and out. Finish it with a little circle for the hand. Then draw a small hook shape on the left side of the body.
Step 8: Hem, legs and shoes
Draw a curved line across the lower body for the hem. Under the body, draw two short straight lines for legs, and a flat oval for each shoe.
Step 9: The net hoop
Next to the head on the right, draw a big upright oval for the net hoop. Beside it, draw a rounded bag shape with a few curved lines inside.
Step 10: The long handle
Draw a long, straight line from the bottom of the hoop down past the hand and toward the ground. It should lean slightly like a tall stick.
Step 11: The butterfly
Near the left side of the body, draw two round wings on top and two smaller wings below. Add a small body in the middle and two short antennae on top. Add a little curly line below the butterfly.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a kid with a butterfly net
- Draw the hat brim as a wide, flat oval first. It is easier to put the round crown on top than to fit the brim around it.
- Make the net hoop one big upright oval, then draw the bag after it. Lightly sketch the bag lines so you can fix them.
- Draw the handle with one quick, steady stroke. Lean it a little so the kid looks like they are holding it, and let it touch the hand.

Kid with a butterfly net fun fact for kids
A butterfly starts life as a caterpillar, then makes a hard shell called a chrysalis. Inside, its body completely changes before it comes out with wings.
Questions about drawing a kid with a butterfly net
What shapes do I need to draw a kid with a butterfly net?
You need a round shape for the head, a rectangle for the body, and ovals for the hat brim, shoes and net hoop. Straight lines make the legs and the long net handle.
How do I make the butterfly look cuter?
Make the wings big and round, and keep the body small. Add two short antennae on top. You can also color spots on the wings when you color the picture.
How do I draw the net handle straight?
Put your pencil at the bottom of the hoop and your eyes on where the line should end. Then pull the pencil in one smooth stroke instead of drawing it in little pieces.
