How to draw a bird step by step

How to Draw a Bird · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The round body

Draw a big circle in the middle of your page. This one round shape is the bird's head and body together.

  3. Step 3: The legs

Under the bottom of the circle, draw two short straight lines going down, side by side. They look like a little pair of sticks.

  4. Step 4: The branch

Draw a long, almost straight line along the bottom, so the legs stand on it. Let it stretch out past the bird on both sides, and add a small leaf shape at the right end.

  5. Step 5: The wing

Inside the lower right part of the circle, draw a small rounded oval, a bit like an egg lying on its side. This is the wing.

  6. Step 6: The tail

On the right edge of the circle, draw a pointy leaf shape that sticks out to the side. Start and end it on the circle so it joins the body.

  7. Step 7: The eyes

Draw two round dots on the upper left part of the circle, with a gap between them. Fill them in until they are solid.

  8. Step 8: The beak

Between the eyes and a little lower, draw a small rounded triangle pointing down.

  9. Step 9: Head feathers

On top of the head, draw a little leaf-shaped feather standing up. Then add a thin curly line next to it that bends over.

  10. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a bird

  • Draw the big circle lightly first. If it comes out a bit wobbly, that is fine, because a chubby bird looks even cuter that way.
  • Keep the two legs the same length and close together, and let them touch the circle and the branch so the bird looks like it is standing.
  • Draw the wing as a small egg lying on its side, and keep it inside the circle so it does not run into the tail.

A bird's feathers are made of keratin, the same material that your fingernails and hair are made of.
