  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.

  2. Step 2: The big round head

Draw a big curved line for the top of the head, like an upside-down bowl. Start on the left side, curve up and over the top, and stop on the right side, leaving a gap at the bottom.

  3. Step 3: The tunic body

Under the head, draw a short, wide shape like a rounded box for the body. The top line is a gentle curve for the neck, and the bottom line is straight.

  4. Step 4: Legs and shoes

Draw two short straight lines down from the bottom of the body for legs. At the bottom of each, draw a flat oval for a shoe, with the two ovals touching.

  5. Step 5: Arms and hands

Draw a short sleeve reaching out to the left, with a small circle at the end for the hand. Then draw a longer sleeve reaching up and out to the right, and finish it with a small curl for the hand.

  6. Step 6: The ponytail

On the left side of the head, draw a small curved leaf shape that starts and ends on the head outline.

  7. Step 7: A happy face

Add two small dots for eyes in the middle of the head. Draw a little curved smile below them, then add two short curved lines at the neck and shoulders for the collar.

  8. Step 8: The sash

Draw one straight diagonal line across the tunic, from the neck on the left down toward the lower right.

  9. Step 9: The tall bow

On the right side, draw a tall, curved bow like a big letter D. Close it with a straight line for the string, right through the right hand.

  10. Step 10: The quiver and spare arrows

Behind the right shoulder, draw a tall, slanted tube for the quiver. Add two short arrow tops poking out of it, each ending in a little hook.

  11. Step 11: The arrow in hand

On the far left, draw one tall straight line through the left hand. Add a pointy V on top for the arrowhead, and a zigzag feather shape at the bottom.

  12. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing an archer

  • Draw the head first and leave room on the right, because the bow is tall and needs space beside it.
  • Make each sleeve with two lines that stay the same distance apart, so the arm keeps the same width from shoulder to hand.
  • Draw the arrow with a slow, steady line. A straight shaft is the trickiest part, and the pointy V on top and the feather at the bottom help hide small wobbles.
