How to Draw Building Blocks (Easy Step by Step)
Building blocks are a great first drawing because every piece is a rounded rectangle. This guide stacks five of them into a tower and adds a small group of two blocks on the ground beside it. You only need rectangles, a few small bumps, and some short curved lines.

Step 1: The wide bottom block
Near the bottom, draw a long, flat rectangle with soft rounded corners. This is the base of your tower.
Step 2: Side lines of the tower
Above the bottom block, draw one long flat line going across. Then draw short lines going up on the right side, so the tower begins to rise. Add a few little bumps and curved lines off to the right for the blocks on the ground.
Step 3: The next block up
Draw a rounded rectangle sitting on top of the tower, a bit narrower than the blocks below it. Its bottom edge rests on the block underneath.
Step 4: The top block and studs
Draw the smallest rounded rectangle at the very top, and add two small bumps on its top edge for studs. Then draw a short curved shine line inside the left corner of each tower block.
Step 5: The long block
On the right side, draw a long, low rounded rectangle lying on the ground. Its top edge sits just under the small studs you already drew.
Step 6: The small block
Draw a small rounded square sitting on the right end of the long block. It sits right under the stud and shine line from before.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing building blocks
- Make each tower block a little narrower than the one below it. This keeps the tower looking steady, and it is the trickiest part to get right.
- Round the corners on purpose. Draw each corner as a small curve instead of a sharp point, so the blocks look chunky and toy-like.
- Draw the studs as short, rounded bumps on top of a block. Try to keep the studs on the same block the same size.

How to color your building blocks drawing
Color each block a different bright color, like red, blue, yellow, green, and orange, to make a rainbow tower. For a creative twist, give the small blocks on the ground a pattern of stripes or dots.
