How to Draw a Trumpet (Easy Step by Step)
A trumpet looks fancy, but it is mostly tubes, rounded rectangles, and ovals. You start with the bell opening and the mouthpiece, then build the pipes, valves, and buttons one at a time. Add some music notes at the end and your trumpet looks like it is playing a tune.

Step 1: The bell opening
On the right side, draw a tall, skinny oval standing up. This is the opening where the sound comes out.
Step 2: The mouthpiece
On the far left, draw a small oval, about the size of a bean. This is where you blow into the trumpet.
Step 3: Two pipe lines
From the little oval, draw two lines that start close together and spread slightly as they run right, then stop. Next to the bell, draw a short straight line going left from the top of the bell, with a small curve where it touches the bell.
Step 4: The curvy tube
Draw a tall line down from the pipe, then a big U shape sweeping along the bottom. Draw a smaller U inside it, and finish with a curve that rises from the right end up to the bell.
Step 5: Two valve tubes
Draw two tall rounded rectangles side by side in the middle, standing up and crossing the pipes.
Step 6: Buttons on top
Above each of the three valves, draw a short stick going up and finish it with a small flat oval, like a button. Add a few short lines across the valves to make bands.
Step 7: Music notes
Above the bell, draw two small ovals with lines going up from them. Join the tops of the lines with a bar and add a little flag at the top.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a trumpet
- Draw the bell as a tall, narrow oval first. It is the biggest opening, and the other parts line up with it.
- Keep the two long pipe lines level so they run straight across the page. Use the edge of a book as a guide if the lines wobble.
- Draw the three valves the same height and the same width. Space them evenly so the buttons on top line up in a row.

How to color your trumpet drawing
Make the trumpet shiny gold or brass, with a lighter yellow stripe down the pipes to look like it gleams. For a creative twist, give each music note a different color.
Trumpet fun fact for kids
A trumpet is one long brass tube bent into loops. If you straightened it out, it would be about 6 feet long.
Questions about drawing a trumpet
What shapes do I need to draw a trumpet?
You need a tall oval for the bell, a small oval for the mouthpiece, rounded rectangles for the valves, small ovals for the buttons, and a big U shape for the curvy tube.
How do I make my trumpet look shiny?
Leave a thin white stripe along the pipes when you color, or color a lighter yellow strip down the middle. That gap looks like light bouncing off metal.
How can I make my pipes look straight?
Draw the top line first, then match the bottom line to it. Going slowly with light lines first helps, and you can trace over them when they look right.
