How to Draw a Dreidel (Easy Step by Step)
A dreidel is a spinning top played with at Hanukkah, and this one has a friendly little face. It is built from a wide box-shaped body, a pointy tip, and a small rounded handle. Once you can draw those three parts, the rest is a letter, a smile, and a few curved lines.

Step 1: Top and sides
Draw a wide upside-down U with a flat top and rounded corners, like a box with no bottom. Let the two sides curl in a little at their bottom ends.
Step 2: The curved top
Just under the flat top, draw a gentle curve that dips down in the middle like a smile. It starts at one top corner and ends at the other.
Step 3: The bottom line
Draw a straight line across the bottom, joining the two curled ends so the box is closed.
Step 4: The pointy tip
Start near one end of the bottom line and draw a line that slants down and in toward the middle. Do the same from the other end so they meet in a point.
Step 5: The handle
On top of the body, draw a short, tall shape with a rounded top, like a tiny tunnel. Its two sides should touch the curved top line.
Step 6: Letter and smile
In the upper middle, draw a line going across, then bend it down on the right side, and add a short slanted stroke below on the left. Underneath, draw two small dots for eyes and a little smile between them.
Step 7: Spinning lines
On the left side, draw a curved line like a bracket bending outward. Draw a matching one on the right so your dreidel looks like it is spinning.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a dreidel
- Draw the top and sides lightly first so you can check that the body is wider than the handle before you press hard.
- Make the two sides of the pointy tip the same length so the bottom ends right in the middle.
- Draw the curved top slowly. Let it dip a little in the center and rise back up at the corners.

How to color your dreidel drawing
Try blue and silver, the colors many people connect with Hanukkah, and make the letter a bright yellow. For a twist, color each spinning line a different color so it looks like the dreidel is whirling.
Dreidel fun fact for kids
Each side of a traditional dreidel has a Hebrew letter: nun, gimel, hey and shin. Players spin it and the letter that lands facing up tells them what to do in the game.
