A palm tree is a fun drawing because it is mostly long curved leaves growing from one spot. You only need an oval for the island, a leaning trunk with stripes, two round bumps for coconuts, and leaf shapes that look like pointy teardrops.

Step 1: The island
Draw a wide, flat oval at the bottom of the page. This is the little island the palm tree grows on.
Step 2: The leaning trunk
Start on top of the island and draw two long lines that lean a little to the right as they go up, like a tall tilted road. Leave the top open for now.
Step 3: Stripes and coconut bumps
Draw short curved lines across the trunk from one side to the other, like stacked stripes. At the very top, draw a wavy line with two round bumps side by side for the coconuts.
Step 4: The leaf center
Draw a small spiky blob just above the top of the trunk. This is the spot where all the leaves will grow out.
Step 5: Big drooping left leaf
From the spiky blob, draw one long curved leaf that sweeps out to the left and droops down. Bring its two lines together in a pointy tip at the end.
Step 6: Upper left leaf
Above that leaf, draw one more long leaf that reaches up and to the left. Give it a curved top line and a gentle bottom line that meet in a point.
Step 7: Two right leaves
Now draw two leaves on the right side. Make one that reaches out and curves up at the tip, and one below it that droops down, each ending in a point.
Step 8: The tall top leaf
Finish with a curved leaf standing up at the top, just right of the middle. Draw a smaller curved line tucked inside it.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a palm tree
- Draw the trunk lines leaning the same way so the tree looks like it is bending in the breeze.
- Keep the stripes short and curved, and space them evenly so they do not bunch up at the top.
- For each leaf, start at the spiky center and sweep outward in one smooth motion, then bring the other line back to meet it at a point.

Palm tree fun fact for kids
A coconut can float on the ocean for months and still sprout into a new palm tree when it washes up on a sandy beach.
Questions about drawing a palm tree
What shapes do I need to draw a palm tree?
You need a flat oval for the island, a long leaning trunk, a spiky blob for the leaf center, and several long curved leaf shapes that look like pointy teardrops.
How do I make my palm leaves look curvy?
Draw each leaf as two curved lines that start near the center and meet at a point. Let the tips droop down a little, and the leaves will look like they are swaying.
How do I make the trunk look bumpy like a real palm?
Add short curved stripes across the trunk, about the same distance apart. Real palm trunks have rings like this, so the stripes make it look more real.
