Cozy socks are a great first drawing because they are built from straight lines and gentle curves. You draw two tall legs and two round feet, then add ribbed cuffs, wavy bands and snowflakes to make them look warm and woolly. Overlapping the pair makes them look like two real socks standing side by side.

Step 1: Back sock's left side
Start at the top and draw a short line to the right, then go straight down for the leg. Curve out to the left into a round foot and finish with a flat line along the bottom. Leave the right side open for now.
Step 2: The front sock
Draw a second sock in front, a little lower and to the right. Make a tall leg and a round foot that bends out to the right, and let its left side overlap the first sock.
Step 3: Cuff lines
Draw a straight line across each leg, a short way below the top. This makes the bottom edge of a folded cuff on each sock.
Step 4: Cuff stripes
Inside each cuff, draw three short, tall stripes. Space them evenly, like the ribs in knitting.
Step 5: Wavy bands
Under each cuff, draw a wavy line that goes up and down from one side of the sock to the other.
Step 6: Pattern borders
Below each wavy line, draw one more straight line across the leg. Now each sock has a neat band of pattern.
Step 7: Toe curves
On the back sock, draw one curved line near the end of the foot. On the front sock, draw a curved line near each end of the foot. Start and end each curve on the outline.
Step 8: Snowflakes
In the middle of each leg, below the pattern band, draw three short lines that cross in the center. This makes a star with six points. Make the two snowflakes about the same size.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing cozy socks
- Draw the left side of the back sock first, then the front sock. The front sock covers the right side of the back sock, so you never need to draw that part.
- Make the wavy band with smooth ups and downs, like gentle ocean waves. Keep the waves about the same size all the way across.
- For the snowflake, draw one short line, then cross it with two more through the middle. Keep all six arms the same length.

How to color your cozy socks drawing
Try red and white for a holiday pair, or a different bright color for each stripe and wavy band. For a twist, make the two socks a mismatched pair with different colors.
Cozy socks fun fact for kids
The word sock comes from the Old English word socc, which meant a light slipper. That word came from the Latin word soccus, the name for a low, loose shoe.
