How to draw a wombat step by step

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.

  2. Step 2: The head

Draw a wide rounded rectangle, like a pillow, near the top of your page. Make the corners soft and curvy.

  3. Step 3: The round body

Start under the head on the left and draw a big curve that bulges out and comes around to a flat bottom. Then draw the other side to match, so the body looks like a plump bean.

  4. Step 4: Two little ears

On each top corner of the head, draw a small half circle, like a tiny rainbow. Make both ears about the same size.

  5. Step 5: Chubby feet

At the bottom of the body, draw a curved shape on each side that looks like a half moon tucked against the body. Let the lines start and end on the body outline.

  6. Step 6: Two round eyes

Inside the head, draw two small dots. Keep them far apart and at the same height.

  7. Step 7: Nose and mouth

Draw a small rounded rectangle in the middle of the face for the nose. Underneath, draw a short line down toward the chin, then two tiny curves at the bottom for a smile.

  8. Step 8: Lines on the tummy

Along the bottom of the body, draw five short straight lines pointing up. Make the middle one the tallest.

  9. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a wombat

  • Draw the head first and make it wide. A wombat looks cuter with a big, flat-topped head.
  • Keep the body a little narrower than the head and give it a flat bottom so it looks plump and sitting down.
  • Let the feet half circles touch the body outline, and draw the five short lines last so you can space them evenly.

Wombat fun fact for kids

Wombats make cube-shaped droppings, and they are the only animal known to do that. They leave the cubes on rocks and logs to mark their territory, and the flat sides help keep them from rolling away.
