How to Draw a Honeycomb (Easy Step by Step)
A honeycomb is a great first lesson in patterns. It is built from hexagons, six-sided shapes that fit together with no gaps, plus a few wavy lines of honey, one drip and one small bee. Once you can draw one cell, you can keep adding more.

Step 1: Center cell and spokes
Draw one hexagon in the middle, a six-sided shape like a stop sign. Then add a short straight line sticking out from each of its six corners, like the spokes of a wheel.
Step 2: The top cells
Draw two hexagons side by side above the middle one. Each one has a pointy roof and straight sides, and they share a wall in the middle.
Step 3: Left and right cells
Add a hexagon on the left and one on the right of the middle cell. Connect their corners to the spokes you already drew.
Step 4: The lower right cell
Draw one more hexagon below the right cell. Start at the center wall, go down, make a pointy bottom, and come back up the other side.
Step 5: The dripping cell
On the lower left, finish the last cell with a long wall down the left side. Let its bottom open into a round drip shaped like a U, like a drop of honey about to fall.
Step 6: Wavy honey
Draw a wavy line like little hills and valleys across the two cells on the left, and one more wavy line in the lower right cell. This is the honey sitting in the cells.
Step 7: The little bee
Above the top right cell, draw a small oval for the bee's body with a few stripes across it. Add two loop-shaped wings on top.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a honeycomb
- Draw the first hexagon lightly. The other cells share its walls, so a wobbly first one makes the rest wobbly too.
- Keep the straight sides of each cell going up and down, and the roofs pointing up like little hats. This helps the cells line up.
- For the honey, think of a wavy line like a snake, with rounded hills and valleys. Draw it slowly from one wall to the other.

How to color your honeycomb drawing
Fill the cells with golden yellow and orange, and make the honey and the drip a darker amber. Color the bee's stripes yellow and black, or try a different shade of yellow in each cell.
Honeycomb fun fact for kids
Honeybees make beeswax in their own bodies and use it to build the six-sided cells of a honeycomb.
Questions about drawing a honeycomb
What shapes do I need to draw a honeycomb?
You mostly need hexagons, which have six straight sides. Add a few wavy lines for the honey, a U shape for the drip, and an oval for the bee.
How do I draw a hexagon easily?
Draw a short vertical line, then angle two lines up to a point for the roof and two lines down for the base. Join them with another vertical line on the other side.
How do I make my honeycomb look sweeter?
Add a drip hanging from one cell and a little bee nearby. Coloring the honey in shiny golden yellow makes it look gooey and tasty.
