How to draw a kid with a backpack step by step

How to Draw a Kid with a Backpack · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The big round head

Draw a big circle near the top of the page for the head. Leave a little space under it for the neck and body.

  3. Step 3: The body box

Under the head, draw two straight lines going down for the sides of the shirt. Then draw a straight line across the bottom of the shirt for the belt, letting the right side line go a bit lower.

  4. Step 4: The backpack outline

Start near the neck on the left and curve a line down the side. Draw a line along the bottom, then a line up the right side so the bottom right corner is rounded.

  5. Step 5: Body side and strap

Draw a long wobbly line down the left side of the body, from the shoulder to the bottom. Then draw a short straight line down the right side of the shirt for a strap.

  6. Step 6: Hands, legs and waving arm

On the left, draw a short curve at the shoulder and a small hand. On the right, draw a hook with a little loop at the top for the waving hand. Under the body, add two short straight lines for legs, with a small arch between them.

  7. Step 7: Two oval shoes

At the bottom of each leg, draw a wide, flat oval for a shoe. Let the two ovals sit side by side so they touch.

  8. Step 8: The lunchbox

Next to the low hand, draw a rectangle with rounded corners for a lunchbox. Add a small bump on top for the handle and a line across it.

  9. Step 9: Face and waving arm

Draw two round dots for eyes and a curved smile below them. Then finish the waving arm with a small circle for the hand, and add curved lines beside it to show a friendly hello.

  10. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a kid with a backpack

  • Draw the backpack after the body box, and let it peek out from behind the kid so it looks like it is being worn.
  • The waving arm is the trickiest part. Draw the hook with a small loop at the top first, then add the curved lines beside it at the end.
  • Keep the two shoes the same size. Draw one oval, then make the second one right next to it so they match.
