How to Draw an Axolotl with a Backpack · tinyhandscreate.com
Step 1: Head and gills
Draw the top of the head with a wavy line across the middle. At each end, draw a floppy, rounded gill that sticks out like a leaf. Then let the side lines of the body drop down from under each gill.
Step 2: The feet
At the bottom, draw a wavy line with two little bumps for the feet. Start it at the lower end of each side line so the body is closed.
Step 3: Eyes and smile
Draw two round dots for eyes, spaced wide apart. Between them and a little lower, add a tiny wiggly smile.
Step 4: The paw
On the left side of the body, draw a small triangle-shaped paw. Add a couple of little marks beside it.
Step 5: The pencil
Draw a long, thin pencil slanting across the paw, with a rounded top at one end. Add a pointed tip at the other end.
Step 6: Backpack outline
On the right side, draw a curved, rounded shape tucked behind the body, like a half circle. Add a curved line along the bottom edge.
Step 7: The pocket
On the front of the backpack, draw a pocket shaped like a teardrop. Add a second curved line just outside it for the edge.
Step 8: The tail
Start below the backpack and draw a long curve that swoops out to the right and flicks up at the end.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing an axolotl with a backpack
- Draw the head and gills first, as floppy rounded leaf shapes. Keep them soft rather than pointy.
- The paw and pencil are the trickiest part. Draw the paw first, then lay the pencil across it as a long thin tube.
- For the backpack, draw the big outer curve first, then fit the teardrop pocket inside it so the two shapes sit neatly together.

An axolotl can regrow a lost leg, and it keeps its feathery gills for its whole life instead of growing out of them like most amphibians.
